He couldn't deny it. Not when he melted into her hug, instinctively clinging onto her like a spar in a storm; not when he could feel the tears starting to spill over. He hadn't realised until right now how lonely he was. Remus, Sirius, Peter, his parents... with all of them, it had kept coming back to what had happened, how it had happened, who had been to blame.
Lily hadn't asked about that. Not about any of that. She probably would, in time, but right now, it wasn't even the fact that Lily Evans was hugging him which made him tear up (although that would have had a pretty profound effect on him at the best of times). It was just that someone knew.
Godric, he thought, suddenly. Is this what Moony was going through all this time, before us?
He sniffled, clearing his throat, and tried not to look like he was crying. "...Yeah," he admitted, and laughed a thin, watery laugh. "Yeah, I really did. Thanks, Evans."
